The Madness begins in 4.0 Early access! Thoughts on Bit Raider and other stuff

Ok, you really are going to hate me. I’m not going to talk about the new in game mechanics. I’m not going to rage on anything. Most of all, I’m not going to give you spoilers if you are still waiting for official release date. I know, there are some blogs out there that are. I got it. It’s ok. Now I’m going to tell you why I’m not talking about stuff.

I’m too fucking busy having fun in the game! Last night I started to log on. For some damned reason it said that the DL wasn’t complete at the Character screen. Ok Jedi students, this is honestly a mind trick when you know you did the DL before work. So fast as I could, I logged out, went into the game folder and deleted all the contents within the Bit Raider folder. (Pro Tip #1: If your game says DL is in progress or isn’t complete…ya do what I did, go into the game folder, then drill down into the bit raider folder; open it up and delete all contents inside. DO NOT delete the folder itself! Now back out and then restart your game.. It will reorganize your files. Then it will upload anything else missing and BAM! Your ready to rock and roll! Ok, Bit Raider has been a pain in the ass before and will in my opinion always be a pain in the ass. I think it was a very poorly executed software concept that does more to screw with people than help them. It is very system dependent, so when I hear some people say “Never affected me” ya it was because it talks to your system better. Anyways, if you have problems as described above, try that little pro tip it often solves the problem.

Pro Tip 2: Can’t get onto the server: Ok, often when there are updates through the SWTOR Client, it doesn’t talk very nice to get through your firewall. Go into your computer settings and confirm/deny if your firewall allows SWTOR to get through your system. You may have to recheck the box even though you have done it before. Sometimes, the version # of the patch update will negate your previous selection, so do your due diligence and check it again! Now once you have checked it, completely log out of your computer and log back in. I’ve had very successful results doing this. Just something to take into account.

Ok, that’s my tech advice for the day, only because a few people have asked me about these very specific problems.

Now, I won’t talk about new game mechanics because I really haven’t tested them enough to be a reliable source. I will say one thing, if you don’t want your companions to come walking into a cut scene in their underwear, MAKE SURE you re equip them BEFORE you start your KoTFE chapters. Because of the new system, for some reason, everything but the chest piece ends up in your inventory. So be sure you check your inventory and load all of your companions again. Re equip them with the clothes they put into your inventory otherwise they will be walking around with very little on (Aric Jorgan and Tanno Vik in nothing but skivvies was a little horrifying for me). Ok, that’s as far as I’m gonna talk on that.

The Story...NO SPOILERS TILL OFFICIAL RELEASE….But HOLY SHIT it is a bad ass story! You gotta come and play. Haven’t been round for awhile? Sub’s get free 60s. Get your Star Wars ever lovin ass in there and play Dammit! It is totally worth it, I promise! I don’t want to go too deep into the story, but it so far is pretty awesome! I started at 730 PM last night, looked up and it was 1230AM…and I had to be up in 4 hours for work lol. So I’m a little loopy today. Judge for your self, but I think i’s well worth getting into. Next week, I’ll write a full review of the content, mechanics and changes. This will mostly be on the effects it had on my game play and enjoyment. Till then. I really hope if you haven’t already get your ass in and play. If you can’t do it till official release I understand but just do it! If you are playing, take your time, don’t rush it! I heard someone on Twitter cleared to 65 in a couple of hours. Well, I suppose if you space bar through everything ya, it can be done. But don’t do that. I implore you to take the time, think about your decisions, they do have impacts. Enjoy the journey! Hell, I even RP walk in a lot of cases for different reasons. That is normally not like me, but this round I really wanted to explore stuff. I promise you it’s a wonderful journey so far with plenty of unexpected twists. Want to know more? Get your ass in here! Till next time, I’ll see ya on the High Ground!

Occupying Myself till The Final Count Down to 4.0!

A young Trooper ready to Serve

Well, first off, what have I been doing lately? Mostly finishing off Logan’Varo my Vanguard Trooper. On the left we see him as a fresh recruit all bright eyed and filled to the brim with motivation and dedication. On the right, Logan has been through some shit. Battle hardened, with zero fucks to give. He operates on his own and cares very little for Republic Politics. A freelance contractor with a team to hire. Kind of funny, I never liked the Trooper per se, but I got attached to Logan over time. Now he is going to be first in the chute when the Expac is out. I did do some fan fic writing for his story but it is still in works. Sometime I’ll post it on a separate page. These pics are sort of spoilers lol.

The Hardened Veteran from a war gone bad

Speaking of 4.0. We are so close to the final hours before early access. Already inthe past 48 hours I’ve seen Ebon Hawk explode with old timers coming back and new comers everywhere. Tython had 2 instances running, both packed with at least 100 people plus. Coruscant was just as packed. A lot of recruiting going on from guilds I hadn’t heard from since a year ago. Yup, the Expac rush is on! I’m not going to comment on the 4.0 features as that’s been beaten to death. I will say that as with any major release, players need to be patient for the first couple of weeks. With the implementation of this almost reboot of the game there are going to be numerous game glitches and bugs for the first few days. It would not surprise me if we see at least a couple of hot fix down times the first week or two to hem up issues that happen. Be patient young Jedi’s! This happens with every game.

My largest concerns are how fast the story content will last. Now, I’m one that will take his time with each choice at least the first 3 or 4 times. But, 5 levels and nine chapters…I wonder how the progression through them will go? Supposedly after a set amount of time after release they will install monthly chapters as well. I wonder if that means they will continue to raise the level cap? Also, will new MMO raid style content appear with those succeeding chapters? A lot remains to be seen for the future. Still, believe me when I tell you I am very stoked to see what they have in store and what new areas we get to explore.

I am definitely looking forward to the new swoop bike I’ll have as well as the Nico Blasters! Perks of being a paid subscriber. To me it’s worth it, especially for early access. The really cool thing is that as a subscriber, I don’t have to pay for the expansion. I really like this part. See, in the old days when I played WoW and AoC, and EQ2 every major DLC EXPAC I had to shell out extra money even though I subscribed. I didn’t complain too much, but with EQ2 and AoC it didn’t really pay to be a subscriber full time and pay for the expacs. At least Bio Ware gave those who remained loyal subscribers extra perks for paying the monthly fee.

Now, I’m not knocking FTP folks. I understand, there are many who live on a tight budget and can afford only so much. It’s all good by me. I just feel that if a player does in fact subscribe, they should get extra bonuses that FTP/Pref Players don’t get. Anyways, Bio ware did good on this. Also, their Cantina crate promotions have been awesome, geez I got like 4 speeders now!

Hey folks, I know there are gonna be a ton of reviews coming out soon as to player experiences. I invite you all to drop by here for an unbiased opinion and coffee/Monsters/Tea/Vodka/Whiskey etc HAHAHAHA!

Boneheaded Move

Ever have one of those gaming sessions where ABSOLUTELY nothing was working out for you? You fat finger hot keys, the Star Wars The Old Republic-05-28-2015 6-26-14mouse optic gets a cat hair in it…you zig when you should have zagged. Ya last night was one of those nights. I was so proud to show off my latest upgrade augments to my Raid Leader so he could see yup I been taking his advice seriously and was indeed paying attention to end game stats and rotation. I had been looking forward to raiding because we hadn’t done it in a couple of weeks due to vacations etc. It’s summer time so totally understandable.

I made sure I was early, had my stims at the ready, cleared my cargo space, and was ahead of schedule on getting into the raid site. Yup folks I was damned proud to show my team ethic and hard work. And then it happened. first to die on 2 wipes by being either too far away from our main healer’s AoE heals. Ran right into a massive burst attack. Played to DoT Paint dance too far out to stay alive. For the love of god! It’s bad enough that the Ziost Raid Boss is just not a Sniper’s forte. But geez I could do no right! I felt like a fumbling child N00B all over again. My Raid Lead and fellow raiders were plenty supportive. They were cool with it and we did finally get that boss down.

The one of our members DC’d due to weather. We were told to wait till she got back to open loot. Sounds fair and no big deal. I was trying to blow cat hair out of the mouse and BAM! My old man arthritic fingers fat fingered the auto loot key that I was sworn not to touch. Needless to say I felt like a complete ASS. Out of my remorse, I passed on all the loot pieces. Again, the Leadership wasn’t too mad, and they knew there was a potential for  it to go down that way. I just for the life of me couldn’t get anything right.

So dear readers, you ever have a day when nothing went right for you? Or did I give you the biggest chuckle for the day? Either way, thanks for dropping by and here is to me hoping Wed and next Sunday aren’t quite so traumatic. Take care all, and if you ever do have one of those REALLY bad video game sessions, remember your not alone! Till next time, see ya on the Hyperlanes, fast and easy!

Hard Break For Day Break

Normally my posts are to do with SWTOR. But I wanted to touch on the events over the past 24 hours. Day Break Games suffered a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack yesterday and has yet to resolve the chaos that has kept all of it’s MMO franchises shut down. This has really put a crimp in those who enjoy EQ1, EQ2, Planet Side 2, H1Z1 etc. A huge community kept from enjoying a set of games as well as the company of each other over a nasty DDoS attack.

Now, I occasionally play Planet Side 2, but not enough to make me infuriated. I haven’t touched EQ2 in almost a year, so that isn’t really a hard deal. Almost all of my time is devoted to SWTOR. Why then am I writing on this? Well, it does affect my family. See, my wife loves EQ2. It’s her one real guilty pleasure in the world of video gaming. Sure, she plays with me on SWTOR but it doesn’t sing to her the way EQ2 does. And as the old saying goes, if Momma ain’t happy then ain’t nobody happy. I feel bad for her. She puts in some serious hours  into her decorating projects on EQ2. It’s honestly one of their more endearing niches in the MMO world. With the game being shut down, it’s been pretty frustrating for her. Whom ever executed the attack may have been targeting the company, but the effects they have are on the people who love the games that Day Break continues on after SOE shut down. This is disappointing in my mind. I’m not going to lay blame per se, but I have to wonder if those who perpetrated the DDoS really understand how it affects people, especially those who pay subscriptions. This sort of behavior is deplorable. On top of all of this, what about the employees of the gaming company? Lost profits will effect jobs. I mean people do have a living to make. Trying to “get at” certain people or sections of a company through this malicious attack affects a lot more lives than just the people they want to hurt.

I know some folks see those perpetrating attacks as Robin Hoods etc, but they aren’t. They hurt communties, hold people from enjoying games as well as burning sub money from consumers. Whether you agree or disagree with company policies, this kind of crap isn’t cool.

On the flip side, this is the second Major DDoS attack on the SOE Legacy (DBas of now). I’m curious as to why after the company was bought out, net security/Hardware security wasn’t upgraded. Based upon the prior attack, one would think precautions would be in place by now. It isn’t good business to let your back door open and flapping in the wind.

This also brings me to wonder if the quote “connectivity” issues on SWTOR the other day was somehow related? Of course they had the system back up and running by the time I returned home from work. I would say any major company that has online games should be reviewing thier security measures in order to protect both their IT infrastructure as well as their customer’s piece of mind. Ok, finished thoughts for the moment. Catch ya all after a bit!

Milestones, Adventures, and some words on PvP

Now why don’t he write? Ya I know I’ve been gone for a bit. Sorry about that. Real Life and game life sometimes compete with one another so what limited time I’ve had lately has been spent either working, with family or actual playing. This unfortunately has curtailed some of my writing activities. Life in the fast lane is pretty crazy at times. So currently, I’m about two years out from retiring from the military. Since it’s so close I’ve been feverishly working on my exit strategy so I have something to look forward to. My father and I got the crazy idea to build a business that encompasses horses, dogs, and some computer savvy stuff. To do it involves a lot of planning, obtaining funds etc. This of course takes up a lot of spare moments that normally I relax and write. Price to pay when I’m dreaming big on my final day to freedom lol. Enough of the real world.

Mharius as you recall is my Imperial Sniper. He has attended a fair amount of raids, upgraded his gear and tweaked it to suit his needs (that my friends is kind of a pain in the ass Star Wars The Old Republic-05-17-2015 21-46-42balancing between accuracy, crit, power etc). He maxed out his crafting and can make every end game epic implant available. Pretty solid income. Even the blue implants at end game are profitable. Not nearly as much as the purples but still enough to have reached over 1 million credits in profit. This even after throwing a good 200k over to my latest pvp alt (which I’ll get to in a bit).

Star Wars The Old Republic-05-28-2015 6-26-24

Jhexi, my dear, sweet, tough talking, smokin’ hot cyborg bounty hunter hit 60 and maxed out her armstech. Not nearly as profitable as I thought. Still very useful when you are looking for augments. Mostly the profit is from saving credits on buying someone else’  crafted augments. But really, Ebon Hawk seems to lack a profitable market on such items. The Barrel Mods aren’t very profitable either compared to materials required to create them.  But these skills are excellent to have when my other alts hit end game, far less expensive in the long run when I can make my own stuff. I haven’t entered her into guild raids yet as our guild took a break from raiding over the past 2 weeks. Hopefully by this weekend I’ll see some action on that end again. So she spends her time crafting and farming on days I’m not involved with other activities. All of her gear now corresponds with Ziost baselines so I’m not worried there. Some of my lesser alts are busy sending bother her and Mharius companion gifts in order to max out affection on all ends. That of course is a pretty long and involved task.

On the family front, my wife and I recently have been tag teaming back and forth between EQ Landmark and SWTOR. She prefers decorationg and building where I prefer up front action. Not to say I don’t like decorating..I do, it’s just a secondary focus. So, she joined me for a bit working a Sith Inquisitor. She got a kick out of dealing with Zash and enjoyed being aStar Wars The Old Republic-06-08-2015 21-26-35 rather evil, selfish little witch. For her, it allows her to make choices that are completely against social norms and she loves it. So, once every week or so, we go back to our toons and lay waste to digitized enemies in a bid for power and domination across the galaxy. Besides, it’s fun working together. I made a Sith Jugg tank for that. She did the Sorc spec. Kind of fun every once in awhile.

On the PvP side. I have to say the war zones on Ebon Hawke pop pretty nicely. I will also say that at least so far the Pub side during my play times has in general rocked the Imperial side to the ground. Now I know, everyone will have different opinions. But so far for me, my pvp toon has had a righteous time fighting. Not a night passes where at least 80% of the time, the team I’m on wins the day. Ya there are occasional losses (mostly in death matches) but I still have had a lot of fun doing war zones.  That being said I have a wish list that I’m sure will not be answered anytime soon. Still, I do wish it was available.

1: Mid Level brackets need to be split of or reconfigured.  The disparity between a level 30 to a lv 55 is pure insane. Especially when Lv 55 can get their hands on some serious min/max mods to dominate on the field of battle. Solution: Bracket LV’s 50-59 together.  LV 60 is the final Tier anyhow. But when I walk onto a battle field Im sorry even with boosted HP my abilities just can’t compare to those of a lv 55. Oh I’ll fight like a madman, but ultimately it ends badly. I tend to keep my toons leveling till they hit at least 40-45 after they punch through to lv 30. It mitigates undo anguish and frustration.

2: More battle fields. NO I DON’T WANT TO SEE ANTHER DEATH MATCH OR HUTT BALL! I mean make a couple of more interesting battle fields that have different victory mechanics. If even one more new War Zone with entirely new mechanics or objectives appeared, I think it would go some distance with the pvp crowd.

3: Low Lv pvp gear is really next to useless compared to standard modding. The brackets are WAY to far apart. LV 20 set and then nothing till LV 40? C’mon!!!! Maybe make a LV 30 set and a LV 50 set to go after. Even then, the gear should be stuff that’s worth owning. There sould be some pvp stats added into each gear piece for each bracket. Now this is very important. It gives meaning to the gear you are supposed to be earning. The ear Pieces and Implants are very nice to have, but the gearing needs to be a bit more robust.

4: PvP Fun Vendor. Ya it’s cool to get a chandelier or 2 and the occasional rotworm/frogdog thingy…but really the pvp rewards do suck. I like that you can get some guards from either faction but other than that…the vendor is pretty weak sauce. Get some other stuff like trophies…wall mounted weapons etc. Something that says your fortress seriously belongs to a PvPer.

Now, I understand that PvE is the long term investment money maker. I get it. But even simple things like what I’ve described can entice new blood into the game when it pertains to PvPers. Some people may say that PvPers are few and far between. Believe me, they aren’t. On a Monday night I probably hit about a war zone every 5-10 minutes. Now, that night I played from 6pm to 10 pm. That earned me almost 200 WZ commendations. All of this on a PvE server. Players may not be uber skilled as long time hard core PvPers bbut they have fun or they wouldn’t play.

Ok, that’s my update folks. I promise I will try to write more often, just remember if there are lulls it’s due to time management. Until next time, may your Hyper Drives Burn bright and may your credits over flow!
