Milestones, Adventures, and some words on PvP

Now why don’t he write? Ya I know I’ve been gone for a bit. Sorry about that. Real Life and game life sometimes compete with one another so what limited time I’ve had lately has been spent either working, with family or actual playing. This unfortunately has curtailed some of my writing activities. Life in the fast lane is pretty crazy at times. So currently, I’m about two years out from retiring from the military. Since it’s so close I’ve been feverishly working on my exit strategy so I have something to look forward to. My father and I got the crazy idea to build a business that encompasses horses, dogs, and some computer savvy stuff. To do it involves a lot of planning, obtaining funds etc. This of course takes up a lot of spare moments that normally I relax and write. Price to pay when I’m dreaming big on my final day to freedom lol. Enough of the real world.

Mharius as you recall is my Imperial Sniper. He has attended a fair amount of raids, upgraded his gear and tweaked it to suit his needs (that my friends is kind of a pain in the ass Star Wars The Old Republic-05-17-2015 21-46-42balancing between accuracy, crit, power etc). He maxed out his crafting and can make every end game epic implant available. Pretty solid income. Even the blue implants at end game are profitable. Not nearly as much as the purples but still enough to have reached over 1 million credits in profit. This even after throwing a good 200k over to my latest pvp alt (which I’ll get to in a bit).

Star Wars The Old Republic-05-28-2015 6-26-24

Jhexi, my dear, sweet, tough talking, smokin’ hot cyborg bounty hunter hit 60 and maxed out her armstech. Not nearly as profitable as I thought. Still very useful when you are looking for augments. Mostly the profit is from saving credits on buying someone else’  crafted augments. But really, Ebon Hawk seems to lack a profitable market on such items. The Barrel Mods aren’t very profitable either compared to materials required to create them.  But these skills are excellent to have when my other alts hit end game, far less expensive in the long run when I can make my own stuff. I haven’t entered her into guild raids yet as our guild took a break from raiding over the past 2 weeks. Hopefully by this weekend I’ll see some action on that end again. So she spends her time crafting and farming on days I’m not involved with other activities. All of her gear now corresponds with Ziost baselines so I’m not worried there. Some of my lesser alts are busy sending bother her and Mharius companion gifts in order to max out affection on all ends. That of course is a pretty long and involved task.

On the family front, my wife and I recently have been tag teaming back and forth between EQ Landmark and SWTOR. She prefers decorationg and building where I prefer up front action. Not to say I don’t like decorating..I do, it’s just a secondary focus. So, she joined me for a bit working a Sith Inquisitor. She got a kick out of dealing with Zash and enjoyed being aStar Wars The Old Republic-06-08-2015 21-26-35 rather evil, selfish little witch. For her, it allows her to make choices that are completely against social norms and she loves it. So, once every week or so, we go back to our toons and lay waste to digitized enemies in a bid for power and domination across the galaxy. Besides, it’s fun working together. I made a Sith Jugg tank for that. She did the Sorc spec. Kind of fun every once in awhile.

On the PvP side. I have to say the war zones on Ebon Hawke pop pretty nicely. I will also say that at least so far the Pub side during my play times has in general rocked the Imperial side to the ground. Now I know, everyone will have different opinions. But so far for me, my pvp toon has had a righteous time fighting. Not a night passes where at least 80% of the time, the team I’m on wins the day. Ya there are occasional losses (mostly in death matches) but I still have had a lot of fun doing war zones.  That being said I have a wish list that I’m sure will not be answered anytime soon. Still, I do wish it was available.

1: Mid Level brackets need to be split of or reconfigured.  The disparity between a level 30 to a lv 55 is pure insane. Especially when Lv 55 can get their hands on some serious min/max mods to dominate on the field of battle. Solution: Bracket LV’s 50-59 together.  LV 60 is the final Tier anyhow. But when I walk onto a battle field Im sorry even with boosted HP my abilities just can’t compare to those of a lv 55. Oh I’ll fight like a madman, but ultimately it ends badly. I tend to keep my toons leveling till they hit at least 40-45 after they punch through to lv 30. It mitigates undo anguish and frustration.

2: More battle fields. NO I DON’T WANT TO SEE ANTHER DEATH MATCH OR HUTT BALL! I mean make a couple of more interesting battle fields that have different victory mechanics. If even one more new War Zone with entirely new mechanics or objectives appeared, I think it would go some distance with the pvp crowd.

3: Low Lv pvp gear is really next to useless compared to standard modding. The brackets are WAY to far apart. LV 20 set and then nothing till LV 40? C’mon!!!! Maybe make a LV 30 set and a LV 50 set to go after. Even then, the gear should be stuff that’s worth owning. There sould be some pvp stats added into each gear piece for each bracket. Now this is very important. It gives meaning to the gear you are supposed to be earning. The ear Pieces and Implants are very nice to have, but the gearing needs to be a bit more robust.

4: PvP Fun Vendor. Ya it’s cool to get a chandelier or 2 and the occasional rotworm/frogdog thingy…but really the pvp rewards do suck. I like that you can get some guards from either faction but other than that…the vendor is pretty weak sauce. Get some other stuff like trophies…wall mounted weapons etc. Something that says your fortress seriously belongs to a PvPer.

Now, I understand that PvE is the long term investment money maker. I get it. But even simple things like what I’ve described can entice new blood into the game when it pertains to PvPers. Some people may say that PvPers are few and far between. Believe me, they aren’t. On a Monday night I probably hit about a war zone every 5-10 minutes. Now, that night I played from 6pm to 10 pm. That earned me almost 200 WZ commendations. All of this on a PvE server. Players may not be uber skilled as long time hard core PvPers bbut they have fun or they wouldn’t play.

Ok, that’s my update folks. I promise I will try to write more often, just remember if there are lulls it’s due to time management. Until next time, may your Hyper Drives Burn bright and may your credits over flow!

Day 5-6 Fistfull of Credits…BHW, Voss: Kisses, Carbonite, and Kingpins..

Well the weekend was pretty busy after I had recovered from my traumatic encounters with caffeine, nicotine, and whiskey…

So I’ll tell you a story of the damnable trouble one poor smuggler turned bounty hunter has gotten into;

Star Wars The Old Republic-04-25-2015 3-05-39

A mutated assassination beast…dead.

It all started with a meeting. Senator Dodonna was pretty shook up after the mutant attack on her. Of course I had to console her. I mean powerful as she was, she still could fear for her life. Rightfully so too, those mutant beasts could have torn both of us limb from limb. This is why I always say two blasters are infinitely better than one. I also always say there is no such thing as fighting fair. Extra numbers, extra thermite grenades, a couple of pistol whips and a dagger or three are your best friends.

Anyways, this led me to escorting her back to her private apartments.

Star Wars The Old Republic-04-25-2015 3-07-42

Always ready to console those under duress.

I woke up the next morning in the lap of luxury. Satin sheets, scented air, pools and food and drink to excess. Needless to say, the powerful do enjoy their perks. As to Dodonna, just incredible. I always thought she was attractive, but waking up to her in nothing more than a silk robe, well it’s a memory I’ll not soon forget. She offered me a drink and sat on the bed. I thought maybe we were going to enjoy a fun-filled morning, but that was not to be. After a long discussion she made it clear that while this interlude was exhilarating for her, neither of us would fit in each others world. The wealthy Senator certainly wasn’t going to give up her standing or the perks that came with it running the hyper lanes with a privateer. She also knew I would never stand to be a tamed trophy boy. Nope, it was better to have a happy memory and a fond goodbye kiss. WOW! Usually I’m the one to leave them pining. I mean either that or getting slapped in the face with a string of expletives that would make a Gundark blush.  Well, she had the run of this one. I couldn’t blame her. She was right, we don’t “fit”. But dammit I would have hoped at least for a few more crazy nights in her private quarters. Instead, I got the cheek caress, kiss farewell, and a slap on the ass. Watching her walk away in those shear robes left me without words.

But I’m not one to dwell too long on this. I used her, she used me and I doubt either one of us cared. It was off to the hyper lanes again. I won’t go into too many details but Dodonna had me looking for some new tech on Belsalvius as well as track down a Crime Lord named Ivory. After some serious problems on a prison planet gone riot, I finally tracked Ivory down. Turns out we had something in common. A hatred for Rogun. In the end, I made the old crime lord my employee. So lets see, a smuggling crew, a pirate raiding fleet and now serious contacts in the underworld. Yup, my plans for the future just got closer. The downside to all of this? Well, Dodonna wasn’t pleased that I didn’t get the tech she was looking for. She also wanted Ivory alive…not “dead”. Ok, lovers sometimes keep secrets from each other. But the thing is, I needed Ivory for my own operations and he was far more valuable to me alive than dead. Star Wars The Old Republic-04-25-2015 3-31-05

With all of that, we at least got word of who sold the mutant beasts to take out the Senator. Hey, I promised I’d deal with them ok? Besides, it was one step closer to killing Rogun. whoever sold those mutants over had closer contact to Rogun and I wanted him dead. Lucky me, the BBA also had two contracts out on some Exchange goons operating out of Voss. Apparently the Voss don’t take kindly to the Exchange raiding their sacred sites. I couldn’t figure out why they wouldn’t just go kill these goons themselves, but who am I to argue? They weren’t amused when I brought the first one back dead. But a deal is a deal and I will get my credits. Especially when my neck is on the line. I let them know, Carbonite freezes were a tricky business and I charged Extra for that sort of thing. Needless to say, with a little effort, the second one went down too.

Star Wars The Old Republic-04-26-2015 16-31-00

So a couple more contracts done.Thid gained me enough notoriety to gain my first Kingpin hit. Back to Coruscant I went. My reputation was starting to be known. Sure, I was the Newcomer, but a few heads were turning about in my direction for such fast turnarounds. The contract brokers gave me a big one this time. I didn’t think anything of it. Just another hit. Boy was I wrong. Damned near died for it too. This wasn’t just another hit. The target was savvy and deadly. Our initial encounter was nothing more than us walking into an ambush. Even Akaavi was surprised. We were beaten back so bad, we had been blown straight off the landing pad in the Justicar Sector. Nothing but a five-minute drop into splatterville for us. Akaavi saved our skins though. She had a power grapple and a locking glove that kept us alive. Nearly broke both our spines in the process, but we didn’t die. So swinging from a sensor conduit on a single cable is no way in my book entertainment. I punched out my emergency beacon locator and called in a favor from The Coruscant Coalition. Needed their extraction fast, and some extra muscle to take this bastard down. They sent me Handit, for a fee of course. But well-earned. Even if I only broke even, I couldn’t come home like a whipped akk pup. So Handit extracted us, sent Akaavi to the kolto tanks and got me readied for another run. This time, we were ready for his style. I gotta say, having Handit there laying down a wall of cannon fire is something to behold. Between the two of us, and a medic, we took the Kingpin down. Not easy and left more than a few bodies in the wake but the job was finished. Taking back his head was a pleasure. The look on the Brokers even more of a reward. They thought I was going to be a corpse for this run. Guess next time they’ll think again…Star Wars The Old Republic-04-26-2015 15-39-29

Ok, so I had a lot of fun this weekend.  The freeze dried stiff in carbonite was fun because his  minions did some enormous knockbacks that left me spinning. I was not at all prepared for what a kingpin meant as a contract…silly me. I wanted to thank the help from my Guild: The Coruscant Coalition for their back up on taking down my first Kingpin Contract. Way cool of them! While it wasn’t necessary in reality, I did donate 20k in credits to the guild bank for the assistance. Hats off to “Handit” aka Handitover for his timely intervention. Without him this would have ended very badly over and over. I’m still leveling on Voss, almost lv 46 now. The guild would never force me into power leveling or anything, but they are looking forward to seeing at least one of my alts make it into the beginning ops by this upcoming weekend. So, Damios is my sole focus now as the BHW comes to a close. It was a lot of fun and now back to serious leveling. Hope you all enjoyed the story and please drop some feedback when you can. Till next time, may your account be full of credits and your hyper drives never burned to a crisp…

Day 1 – The Beginning

It’s always nerve-racking when you write your first blog post. I really don’t have any game breaking news or opinions yet, so I thought I’d grab some coffee and give ya a little back ground on me and the intent of this blog which is dedicated to my thoughts on SWTOR. In the past I have run a couple of blogs out there, The Rusty Blade for World of Warcraft, and then Hyborian Rage for Age of Conan. I enjoyed both games to a point, and then when the enjoyment had passed or I disagreed too strongly with the game direction I moved on. Why? Well, I believe in being a full subscriber for myself. So, I invested both time and money into every endeavor. I’ve always had the opinions that if you aren’t having fun, then change the game. Anyways, I blogged about my experiences in both of those games, both good and bad as a casual player. Over the years I’ve experienced at least a few MMO’s out there, so I know what I like and don’t like. It all started with EQ1 back in the early 2000’s. Then it was SWG: Pre NGE. Along the way, Never Winter Nights, WoW, Age of Conan, EQ2, EQ Landmark, Planetside 2, and most recently SWTOR. Each game had its charm and its failings. I’ve lead a guild, raided, PvP’d till blood streamed from my keyboard sore finger tips. All this led me to believe that while I like to strive for excellence, I don’t make it my life. Too many other things in the real world require my attention. But I love the interaction with other people; hence MMO’s have been my hobby for so long. So for almost 15 years, I’ve been out there in the MMO land.

In the real world, I’ve served in the military, had several deployments and soon will retire from that profession with the eventual goal of becoming a regularly published writer…and making money at it too! Currently married, my son and daughter are in college and I have 2 dogs and 4 cats…all rescues. If you thought raising kids was expensive … trust me animals are just about the same.

Hmm…so the blog. Well, I was hesitant on even blogging this round for a game that I enjoy. Thing is, I like to write. What you won’t find are stat busting number crunches, optimum class/stat builds, OPs strats, gaming strats, etc. There are plenty of those out there. I may discuss my builds or things I’ve seen work but in the most casual non hardcore way as possible. I will interject my opinions on good and bad about the game in the fairest way possible. Along the way, I’ll throw my hand at little stories for my toons. While I’m not a super active RPer, I do occasionally join into stories out there. Above all, I am immersive in game play. All of my toons have reasons for the choices they make and develop throughout gameplay.

The Blog Name? Oh, a play on words of the old Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Westerns of the 60s. I grew up loving Clint Eastwood’s antiheroes and a lot of my toons bare the same traits. The original idea was to keep it just Bounty Hunters, but really I’d get bored with that pretty quick. So I took stock of all my current toon projects and realized that almost all of them had two traits in common; the love of money and the grim attitudes against the organized governments both light and dark side. I’ll show case these little devils down the road. For now, they were the catalyst for dreaming up stories and such.

Hey, thanks for dropping by and checking out the site. More will follow in coming days. For the time being, ENJOY THAT x2 XP through the 22nd! I know I will.
